1. Who we are
This policy explains how SMS Courier Limited (“SMS Courier”, “we”, “us”) handles personal data when you visit www.smscourier.ng, create an account, book or track a shipment, use our warehouse hub services, or contact us.
We are the data controller for that information. Our hub is at No. 300 Oron Road, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. Privacy questions: info@smscourier.ng or +234 7063244142.
We process personal data in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (NDPA), the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation, and other applicable Nigerian law.
2. Data we collect
- Account details: name, email, phone, password, address, and for companies, company name, contact person, and registration number.
- Shipment details: pickup and delivery addresses, recipient name and phone, parcel description, tracking number, and status history.
- Hub and inventory: product catalogues, inbound transfer quantities, and stock held at our warehouses for company customers.
- Delivery evidence: proof-of-delivery photos, signatures, timestamps, and device location when a driver records delivery.
- Operations: driver assignment, warehouse handoff, and staff actions on your orders.
- Website and security: IP address, browser type, pages visited, and cookies needed to keep you signed in and protect the service.
- Messages: contact-form and support emails you send us.
If you do not provide details we need to carry a shipment (for example a delivery address or recipient phone), we may be unable to complete that booking.
3. How we use your data
- Create and manage customer, company, store, and driver accounts.
- Pick up, store, dispatch, and deliver parcels, and show tracking on this website and in the customer portal.
- Geocode addresses so maps can show pickup and delivery locations.
- Record proof of delivery and resolve claims or failed attempts.
- Hold and fulfil company hub stock against approved catalogues.
- Send service messages (status updates, inbound validation, low-stock or account notices).
- Improve operations, prevent fraud, and meet legal, tax, and accounting duties.
We rely on performance of a contract, our legitimate interests in running a courier network, legal obligation, and, where required, your consent (for example optional marketing).
4. Who we share data with
We share information only as needed to provide the service:
- Drivers and warehouse staff assigned to your shipment or inbound transfer.
- The company or individual who booked the shipment, so they can track it.
- Map and geocoding providers (currently Mapbox) to place addresses on a map.
- Email and hosting providers that process data on our instructions.
- Regulators, courts, or law enforcement when Nigerian law requires it.
We do not sell personal data.
5. Retention
We keep shipment, proof-of-delivery, and account records for as long as needed to deliver the service, handle disputes, and meet record-keeping duties — typically at least six years for operational and accounting records, unless a longer period is required by law. You may ask us to delete an account; we may retain a limited record where we must.
6. Security
Access to staff panels is role-based. Passwords are stored hashed. Proof-of-delivery files are stored on secured disks. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure; we take reasonable technical and organisational measures appropriate to a courier platform.
7. Your rights
Subject to the NDPA, you may request access to your personal data, correction, deletion, restriction of processing, or a copy in a portable format. You may also object to processing based on legitimate interests, and withdraw consent where we rely on it.
Write to info@smscourier.ng. You may also lodge a complaint with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.
8. Cookies
We use essential cookies and similar storage to keep sessions logged in, protect against cross-site request forgery, and remember flash messages. These are required for the website and portals to work. We do not use advertising cookies.
9. Children
Our services are intended for adults and businesses. We do not knowingly create accounts for children under 18.
10. Changes
We may update this policy when our services or the law change. The “Last updated” date at the top will change. Continued use of the site after an update means you accept the revised policy.
